Would you like to learn how to create beautiful upcycled furniture pieces yourself? Based in Margate, Kent we offer a range of group workshops and one to one tuition. Techniques include painting, découpage and gilding. Below you will find a list of upcoming workshop dates but if you don’t see what you are looking for please get in touch as we may be able to schedule something to suit you or arrange a one to one session. We are also developing new courses so if there’s a particular aspect of furniture upcycling you are interested in learning please let us know!

1 to 1 upcycling workshop

Upcycle a Table Workshop

One-to-one Upcycle a Table Workshop

Time: 10:00 am – 1:30 pm (can be flexible)

Price: £175 per person including all materials and a table to take home. Discounts available for groups of two or three

Location: Webb & Gray Studio, Margate CT9 2JR

This one day course will teach you the prep, painting and découpage techniques required to create your own unique side table to take home. Choose from a selection of paint colours and beautiful wallpapers to create your bespoke piece. The course is suitable for beginners and all materials – including a table – are included. Please wear old clothes you don’t mind getting paint on!

You will learn:

  • How to source furniture for upcycling and what to look out for
  • How to choose your materials – what paints, papers and topcoats to use
  • How to prepare your piece for painting
  • How to paint with a smooth modern finish
  • How to apply wallpaper to furniture
  • How to finish your piece

The course will run on from 10am and finish around 1.30pm. Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided!

Time: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Price: £125 including all materials and a table to take home

Location: Margate Design Collective, 151 Northdown Rd, Cliftonville, Margate CT9 2QY

Gilding

Date: TBC 2023

Time: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Price: £125 including all materials and piece(s) of homeware to take away

Register Your Interest

An introduction to gilding for upcycling and craft. Learn the art of gilding in this one day course and choose from a range of metal leaf colours to upcycle a decorative item of your choice to take home (vase, candle stick, picture frame etc.) The course is suitable for beginners and all materials – including pieces to gild – are included. Please wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting messy!

You will learn: 

  • Applications – look at uses and examples of gold and other metal leaf
  • Materials required
  • How to apply imitation gold leaf to a range of surfaces including wood, ceramic and glass
  • How to create a range of effects including an aged look and patterns
  • How to seal and protect your work

Carrie Webb / about your teacher

Carrie Webb, the designer-maker behind Webb & Gray, is an experienced interior designer and has been professionally upcycling furniture since 2016. Based in Margate Carrie employs a range of techniques to produce her unique statement pieces as well as undertaking bespoke commissions. Her work has been featured in numerous publications including The Guardian online, The Sunday Express Magazine and Living Etc.
