Trends are always a hot topic in the design world – should you follow them, should you ignore them altogether? More and more, interior design is about individuality and your home being a reflection of you. However, the fact remains that we are all affected by what is and isn’t in fashion. Trends determine what you see in the media, online and in the shops.

My personal view is that trends can be inspiring but you shouldn’t be ruled by them. As a designer it’s important for me to be aware of trends and I tend to embrace the ones I like and that fit with the Webb & Gray brand and forget the rest. I think it’s the same when considering the design of your home – by all means include pieces that are ‘on trend’ but don’t base your entire design on it. By definition trends come and go, much better to choose things you genuinely love – they will make you happy and stand the test of time. Here’s my roundup of some of the top 2024 interior design trend predictions along with a few of my personal opinions!

Brown

Everyone is calling out brown as a huge trend for interiors in 2024. It’s not my cup of tea (no pun intended) so this shade won’t be front and centre of my work this year! But never say never – it’s possible you could see a touch of rich chocolate creeping in here or there!

Peach

Pantone and WGSN both have shades of peach as their colour of the year for 2024 (Peach Fuzz and Apricot Crush respectively) so expect to see these peachy shades everywhere. Our handcrafted candlesticks made from reclaimed table legs and gilded in a peach dyed silver leaf are on the money for this trend and our Clementine drinks trolley speaks to the darker end of this hue.

Sculptural Shapes

The curves that we’ve been seeing across architecture, interiors and furniture design over the last year or two are going nowhere! Sculptural forms and unusual shapes will continue to dominate in 2024. Living Etc. have listed ‘curvaceous cabinetry’ as one of their top trends for the year. Check out our Luna curved glass drinks cabinet which fits the bill perfectly!

Silver

It’s no secret we’re big fans of metallics here at Webb & Gray so I’m certain silver will be making an appearance at some point this year! According to Pinterest Predicts, ‘Cool silver tones and bold chrome are resonating right now. Melty metallics will make their way into the mainstream in 2024 as people trade in their trusty neutrals for something a bit more hardcore.’

Red

Viva Magenta was Pantone’s colour of the year for 2023 and I think this warm and vibrant red is set to continue its popularity within interiors through 2024.

Stripes

Yes, yes, yes! One of my favourite 2024 interior design trend predictions! We have always loved stripes and will always love stripes. This year the bold, all over stripe is set to become more popular.

Chartreuse

This vibrant acid green has long been a favourite in my wardrobe (in fact I’m currently typing this in a pair of chartreuse fingerless gloves – yes it’s cold here!) but I don’t think I’ve ever used it in my furniture or homewares. Global trends authority WGSN has Cyber Lime tipped as a key colour for 2024 so perhaps this will be the year chartreuse makes an appearance in the Webb & Gray collection!

Marble and stone

Marble has been on trend for some time now particularly in kitchen and bathrooms but is set to become even more popular as a finish for furniture and accessories. What’s more, faux marble finishes and the art of paper marbling are enjoying a renaissance as a sustainable alternative to stone. Our Clementine drinks trolley features a hand marbled paper in vibrant oranges. Watch out for more marbled pieces from us coming soon!

Craftsmanship and one of a kind pieces

Last year we noticed a real surge in interest in everything handmade and artisanal. Both Vogue and Elle Decoration are predicting a continued interest in handcrafted and one-off furniture and homewares. People are looking for quality, originality and craftsmanship. They want things made by a real person with a story rather than a big brand and vintage pieces also continue to increase in popularity. Naturally we’re big fans of this trend – it’s what we do – and we see it more as a movement or shift in thinking than a 2024 interior design trend prediction. It also brings us back to the question how we make choices for our interiors – buy quality pieces you love and you can’t go wrong! So that’s it for our pick of 2024 interior design trend predictions, hope you’ve found it interesting!
