Gilding Workshop
Discover the art of traditional metal leaf gilding and transform everyday objects with gold leaf. The workshop will take place during our week-long pop up at the 1697 shop in Faversham.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to apply imitation gold leaf to a variety of surfaces, along with techniques for sealing and protecting your work with varnish. Carrie will guide you through each step, sharing her practical approach to achieving a smooth, professional finish.
You’re welcome to bring your own piece to transform, or choose from a curated selection of decorative objects available on the day. If you plan to bring something from home, feel free to send a photo in advance so we can check it’s suitable. We recommend avoiding anything too precious.
Workshops are kept small to ensure a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Tea, coffee, and biscuits are provided. No previous experience is needed and all materials are provided.

About our pop-up at 1697
Join us for a week-long pop-up at 1697 from 13–19 July. Set within a beautifully refurbished listed building in the heart of Faversham, the space is dedicated to supporting local artists and makers, offering a place to showcase work and run independent pop-ups.
We’ll be bringing a collection of our handcrafted furniture, lighting, artwork, and homewares, all available to buy. Throughout the week, Carrie will be demonstrating traditional gilding techniques, alongside a programme of hands-on workshops in gilding and lampshade making. A chance to see the work up close, learn new skills, and take something home.
